A procurement team was set up in 2005 to meet increasing needs for organization and advising on procurement for the country office and UNDP-supported projects. The team’s responsibilities include:

  • implementing a sourcing strategy;
  • e-procurement;
  • controling project assets;
  • administering contracts;
  • overseeing procurement;
  • monitoring contractual commitments;
  • advising on contractual regulations;
  • developing the capacities of project staff members

The procurement team also provides services to the various UN agencies on a cost-recovery basis. In accordance with international best practices and the Financial Rules and Regulations of the United Nations, the following general principles are considered during the procurement process:
  • best value for money;
  • fairness, integrity, and transparency;
  • effective international competition;
  • the interests of UNDP

In order to obtain a good overview of UNDP' s procurement practices, you are encouraged to read the UNDP Procurement Guide at

http://content.undp.org/go/userguide/cap/procurement/?lang=en.

The Guide provides information on issues including how we source suppliers, what procurement methods we use and how we evaluate offers. It also explains UNDP’s internal review framework and its general considerations of contracting.
